Marmota reports bonanza heavy mineral assays from metallurgical testing at Muckanippie titanium discovery

First assays from metallurgical testwork at Marmota’s (ASX: MEU) Muckanippie titanium discovery in South Australia have returned bonanza heavy mineral (HM) concentrations over thick intercepts.
Testing showed high grades at surface from every discovery hole with best results of 28 metres at 19.2% HM including 4m at 22.2%; 36m at 13.5% HM including 4m at 27.8%; 39m at 13.2% HM including 4m at 26%; and 24m at 13.5% HM including 4m at 21.3%.
Marmota chairman Dr Colin Rose said the company was pleased with the first assays.
“These HM assays are outstanding and confirm Muckanippie to be a highly-significant discovery,” he said.
“It is a positive start to 2025 and just the beginning of what we expect will be a very rewarding year for Marmota and our shareholders.”
Testwork program
Dr Rose said the testwork program involved heavy liquid separation to determine the percentage of HM concentrates in each titanium dioxide sample and facilitate the sieve separation of denser titanium oxide-bearing HM from less dense sands, slimes and clays.
Further work will include x-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis to determine the titanium oxide content of the HM concentrates; and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis to determine the percentage of high-value HM such as rutile, anatase and ilmenite.
Geological review
A recent geological review at Muckanippie identified a regional-scale palaeochannel interpreted to cut across thick titanium mineralisation discovered separately by Marmota and Petratherm (ASX: PTR).
The new interpretation of the Mesozoic palaeochannel was aided by work published as recently as November 2024 by the Geological Survey of South Australia GP2 project which comprised ground-based gravity and magnetotellurics surveys in the central-western Gawler Craton.
Marmota holds approximately 28 kilometres of the highly-prospective, titanium-bearing palaeochannel on its tenements.
Approximately 10km lies within the company’s tenements to the west and 18km lies within its tenements to the east.
The palaeochannel is interpreted to be up to 5km in width over Marmota’s tenements, as defined by the GP2 project.
