Defense Metals Corp. (DEFN:TSX.V; DFMTF:OTC; 35D:FSEQB) started the 2019 diamond drill program at its Wicheeda rare earth elements project in British Columbia, it announced in a news release.

The goal of the campaign, expected to take about six weeks, is to better define and possibly expand the Wicheeda deposit to update the existing mineral resource estimate on it.

That current resource consists of 11,370,000 Inferred tons of, on average, 1.96% light rare earth elements (LREE) at a cutoff grade of 1% LREE (the total percentages of cerium, lanthanum, neodymium and samarium).

Because Wicheeda remains open to the north, south and west, drilling will test those areas for extension. It also will further define the 'relatively higher-grade near surface dolomite carbonatite unit' and test specific drilling gaps in the deposit, according to the release.

Currently, a rig is now targeting the western area, after which drilling will move to the east and then the northern end.
