source:natureAbstractRare-earth titanates form very fragile liquids that can be made into glasses with useful optical properties. We investigate the atomic structure of 83TiO2-17Nd2O3 glass using pair distribution function (PDF) analysis of X-ray and neutron diffraction with double isotope substitutions for both Ti and Nd. Six total structure factors are analyzed (5 neutron + 1 X-ray) to obtain complementary sensitivities to O and Ti/Nd scattering, and an empirical potential structure refinement (EPSR) provides a structural model consistent with the experimental measurements. Glass density is ...

source:azominingAZoMining speaks with Prof. James Tour from Rice University about his novel method that has the potential to recover valuable REE from three types of waste; electronic waste, coal fly ash and bauxite residue. This novel process could offer a radical, environmentally friendly alternative to conventional REE extraction and recovery methods. The demand for rare-earth elements (REE) is on the rise. Why do you think this is?Due to their unusual physical and chemical properties, such as unique magnetic and optical properties, REEs have diverse applications that touch many aspect...

Nacre-mimetic cerium-doped nano-hydroxyapatite/chitosan layered composite scaffolds regulate bone regeneration via OPG/RANKL signaling pathway source:newswiseAbstract:Background: There has been a major burden in diseases associated with critical bone defects. Despite many techniques for defect management has come into use, the common treatment remains controversial. Mollusk nacre is a natural structure with outstanding mechanical property due to its notable “brick-and-mortar” architecture. Combining inorganic brick with organic mortar, natural nacre displays remarkable tensile strength an...

Paving The Way For 5G: RF Filter Process Monitoring And Control Using Picosecond Ultrasonic Metrology source:semiengineeringA recent study shows the radio frequency (RF) filter market growing steadily by nearly $16 billion from 2019 to 2024 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 20%, according to Technavio. The strong growth in the RF filter market is driven by the increased adoption of 5G technology, the surge in smartphones using 5G, and commercial and consumer devices dependent on internet of things (IoT) applications. Together, these factors are some of the most sign...
